Dates
Date and Tahini Smoothie
A creamy date and sesame smoothie with naturally sweet, caramel-like notes, prepared with softened dates for small blenders.
Yield: 1 small serving. Ingredient quantities are approximate; check the fill level and adjust to suit your blender.
Ingredients
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Milk or unsweetened plant drink | 165ml |
| Soft pitted dates | 2 small dates (about 20g) |
| Tahini | 1 tsp (about 5g) |
| Ripe banana (optional) | About 30g |
| Ground cinnamon (optional) | A pinch |

Method
- Check that the dates are fully pitted. Soak them in a little warm water for five minutes if they are firm, then drain and cool.
- Add the milk to the blender bottle, followed by the softened dates, tahini, optional banana and optional cinnamon.
- Blend until no large date pieces remain. Stop if the mixture does not circulate and adjust within the fill limit.
- Taste before adding any sweetener because dates are already sweet.
Make it your own: For a more pronounced sesame flavour, add a little more tahini in a second batch. For a milder version, omit the cinnamon. The banana shown in the photograph is an optional add-in. Ice is pictured only as a serving suggestion; do not blend ice unless your model's manual permits it.
Nutrition notes
Nutrition varies with ingredient brands and portions. This recipe has not been kitchen-tested or nutritionally analysed, so no specific calorie or macronutrient claims are made.
Portable blending notes
Use soft dates cut into small pieces. Hard dates and pits can damage compact blender blades. Contains sesame; check milk alternatives for other allergens. Check the instructions for your particular model, stay below its maximum fill line and never force a stalled blend.

For compact blending, add liquid first and cut firmer ingredients into smaller pieces. If the mixture is too thick to circulate, add a small splash of liquid and blend again.
